Artist Statement

My work represents an individual reaction to the world around me, including nature, people and our constructed environment. The creative process relies on integrity and emotional truth much as poetry does. Art is a means of communication that can heal, uplift, and transform the viewer. Formalist elements and principles of design are important. I use abstraction as an exploration of color, texture and form. Artists throughout history influence me, including printmakers from Dürer to contemporary Michael Mazur. With the printmaking tradition, I strive to make work that is democratic, affordable and accessible, views that I try to communicate in my teaching. - Linda Prentiss
